Late 40's. I find myself getting more forgetful all the time. Should I be worried or is this common?

I've always been a little forgetful, but now I find myself forgetting words that I've probably used 1000 times. I'll have to think really hard, or even look it up on the net. This happens several times a day.

Here's an example, yesterday I was talking to my daughter about the movie "highlander". But I didn't remember the name. But I could describe in detail all the people and the plot. And how the second movies was a big bomb and changed the plot, and the third movie ignored the second movie... The "quickening", "I am conner mccloud of the clan McCloud", Ramirez the spanish character played by Sean Connery. The kergan, etc.

I recalled everything about the movies, literally everything. But I could not remember the name of the movie, even though we had spent most of our youth quoting it.

It's frightening me. Is this normal as you start to get older?

It is perfectly normal. My friends and I just make a joke about it. Keep your brain active by doing crosswords and sudoku and such. Everybody I know is having the same thing happening to them.................

I'm no expert, at all, but I do know that there is a small percentage of people who get alhziemers before they're 60. It usually happens when they're 40-50 if that's the case.

Yeah, maybe you should be a little worried. If you forgot where you are or what you're doing. forgot who people are(that you know very well), or do things that you would normally think is ridiculous than talk to your doctor.

All you can do is try to keep your mind sharp, get an i-phone so you can look up words all the time, and eat right.

I'm so sorry, I really hope I'm wrong and you've just been having an off day or something.

A deficiency in zinc, the essential fatty acids, and some of the B-vitamins causes slow or loss of memory. get your nutrient levels checked. nurse will take a blood test to see if you are low in any of them.
