Last week I had vertigo/dizziness when I was trying to sleep, and it prevented me from sleeping all night (see previous question) I thought it could be down to a bug or the fact I drank a couple glasses of coke so the caffeine was keeping me awake. But it happened again last night, it didn't keep me up all night, but for a good few hours and I definitely recognised the feeling being the same as the one last week. When it occurs its only when lying down and with my eyes shut its almost like a falling feeling and then I have to open my eyes/move/walk around to stop it. I dont have any ear pain so I don't think its an ear infection. I am always having sinus problems (I believe) and I suffer from hayfever. I don't have any severe headaches or anything. Just would like to know whats causing it and how to treat it if it happens again? Or if it will go away on its own. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you

Too much of anything cannot be possibly be good. Caffeine has it good and bad side, it will keep you awake a couple of hours but after that it will decrease your calcium in the body. You say you commonly have sinus problems, then you should look at allergens that could be in your room like dust, mold and so on. These kinds of allergens can make you feel dizzy and all that.

It sounds like you could have meniers disease. Its an imbalance in the middle ear. You can get medication from your GP. It doesnt involve any ear pain, just dizziness and sometimes nausea.

I have it and it always seems worse when I am very tired or stressed. Try not to jump up quickly from a lying down position. Just take your time. A few early nights may help. If not treated, it may begin to happen during the day too, so a visit to your GP is a must. I know that horrible feeling of lying down and the room spinning, its not nice at all, good luck and I really hope you get it sorted out soon.

It happens to me A LOT so you're not alone. You might be constantly worrying about something or really excited about something this weekend, so your mind goes into a frenzy. I know this because I've experienced it. Even though you don't feel tired, no sleep can still damage your brain and leave you mentally and physically exhausted. Here are some tips on how to get rid of the constant thinking If you can't sleep, try, before bed, to take deep breaths and clear your mind or listen to soft jazz or a popular song that is slow enough to lull you to sleep. I also found that a year or two ago, when I couldn't sleep for like a week straight, that listening to chinese meditation music and sitting on my bed with the song on repeat helped a great deal . (:

Hi,I get this too,but only when i turn my head to the right when lying down.I have been told its due to crystals in the ear canal. Its not a very nice feeling but i do not think the doctor can do much about it,mine has been going on for years. There are initials BPV,which you can look up and might find some more information on it.Hope it clears for you soon. I have a similar problem, it started last year. When I lay down or sometimes if I look up and tilt my head backwards I get very dizzy, my head starts spinning and it makes me feel queezy. I belive mine is caused by a shoulder/neck problem, best idea is to see your GP. they can take a look and advise.
