I have tinnitus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinnitus) and can't sleep without noise like music or a fan on. My roommate is completely opposed to music (I have to play it pretty loud) and struggles to sleep with the fan on due to the noise.

I'm looking for something like a white noise generator which can only be heard in one direction, or something like that. Anyone have this problem with their roommate/partner/etc.?

A white noise machine may help. Is it possible for you to go to bed after your roommate is asleep?

I use the tv and reruns of sitcoms to offset the buzz.

I have a magical trick for tinnitus. It is something I fell upon by accident. If you make random oscillating noises in your head you can eventually find a frequency that makes the ringing go away like magic. Either hum a tune of pick different frequencies and imagine them in your head. Tinnitus starts as damage in the inner ear, but the ringing is actually because of a network of neurons that are firing randomly because they no longer get proper stimulation. What my technique does is retrains the neurons to fire with other neighboring neurons.

Did you tested Tinnitus Miracle technique? Try this site : http://tinyurl.com/abaftbarrel52 . Possibly this could obviously instruct each and every one!
